Sandy has been around swimming her whole life as either an athlete or a parent of SCA athlete's.  A NCAA Divison 3 All-American swimmer in the 200 butterfly, Sandy earned a B.S. in Microbiology and Economics at UCSD and a masters degree from UC Irvine.  Sandy is a former SCA board president and currently a swim coach at San Clemente High School and the Master's Coach at the Aquatic Center.  Sandy coaches the Silver, Senior, and FitPrep groups for SCA.
 
 

FitPrep Group

The is the perfect group for swimmers that are between the age of 12 and 16 looking to explore competitve swimming, or improve their skills for other water and land based activities.  "FP" Swim training is an effective way to incorporate workouts that are gentle on joints and tough on the cardiovascular system. Swimming also works an athlete’s entire body, exposing their strength to bodyweight ratio increasing their range of motion.  Practices are 1 hour and attention to proper stroke details are emphasized with some endurance training and a little bit of FUN thrown in.  Swim meets are optional. Typical age range:  12-16.

 

Minimum Swim Requirement:

  • 200 yards legal Freestyle and 200 yards legal Backstroke
  • Swimmers who are members of their high school team do not need to tryout
  • Swimmers new to competitive swimming should attend ONE practice as a tryout before registering for this group.

Equipment:  Arena Hand Paddles (size Small), Pull Buoy, Arena Snorkel, Kick Board, Fins, Mesh Bag, and Water Bottle.
