San Clemente Aquatics

“A Great Place to Start-The Best Place to Finish”

San Clemente Aquatics (SCAT) is a USA Swimming Level 1 Team and also a Safe Sport recognized Club. We are an "IM" based team, meaning our coaching staff is driven to teach our swimmers to have great technique in all 4 competitve strokes. Our swim coaches are USA Swimming certified and American Swim Coaches Association members. They are always looking to learn from the newest techniques and technology and incorporate them into our program. We are proud that our atheletes excel at mulitple events, multiple strokes as well as the Individual Medley. Focusing on all 4 strokes makes our swimmers happy, always learning, and less prone to injury due to repetitive overused movements; also, "IM" based practices are also better at developing the swimmers aerobic capacity. Our coaching philosophy is that thru excellent technique comes grace and grace comes by art and our San Clemente Coaches are dedicated to the art of teaching technique first.

At San Clemente Aquatics, teaching children is our career; But teaching children to love the water is our passion!  Our goal is to give every San Clemente Swimmer life-long memories of fun and enjoyment swimming at our pool with their friends. Swim meets, special age group outings, holiday parties, birthday celebrations, beach days- fun all year long! Finally We hope that thru SCAT, our swimmers develop life-long skills  and rewards. San Clemente has produced Olympic Trial qualifiers, Collegiate swimmers, CIF Champions, State Park Lifeguards, and more!

New San Clemente swimmers will be assessed and placed into an appropriate group based on skill level, age, and by the group requirements stated on the subsequent pages. For new swimmers, a designated coach will assess and place every swimmer after a “try-out” is conducted by the perspective athlete. The perspective swimmer/family must request a try-out and a time and date will be scheduled for that swimmer/family for the assessment.

“Move-ups” will take place twice a year; 1st at the beginning of every season (September) and 2nd in the Spring (April). For a “move-up” to take place, both coaches (current, and perspective) must agree on the swimmers move. All move-ups will be on a 1-month probationary period to ensure the athletes can handle the new challenges of their new group.

Our goal is to set every San Clemente swimmer up for success. The SCAT coaches will be basing move-ups on physical ability (times) and mental and emotional preparedness (practice requirements). All swimmers and families must be ready for the physical and mental challenges that each higher-level group demands; therefore, ultimately move-ups will be at the coach’s discretion to ensure every swimmer is ready for success and will have a smooth transition into their next group. After the month “probationary” period, the swimmer, parents, and coach will meet to discuss if the new group is a good fit for the athelete.
